Ludmila Golovine, CEO of MasterWord Services, will host a discussion with Dr. Alejandro Chaoul, the Huffington Foundation Endowed Director and Founder of The Jung Center’s Mind Body Spirit Institute, Dr. Eve Ekman, an internationally known contemplative social scientist and creator of the Atlas of Emotions at the request of the Dalai Lama., and Dr. Elissa Epel, a stress scientist and New York times bestselling author of The Telomere Effect, investigating ways to protect telomeres, slow disease and improve health-span.
These speakers will discuss ways to mitigate the effects of the stressors of the digital world and teach us how to be more resilient and flourish as we move forward.
Eve Ekman, PhD., MSW
Eve Ekman Ph.D., MSW is a contemplative social scientist designing, delivering and evaluating tools to support emotional awareness in the fields of health care, wellbeing, and technology. Developing emotion awareness means we have a vocabulary to describe our emotions, understand the core causes of our emotions, and cultivate a compassion intention for how we embody and enact our emotions. Eve draws on advanced training and life experiences in clinical social work, integrative medicine, and contemplative meditation practices and science Eve is a senior fellow at the Greater Good Science Center, Director of Cultivating Emotional Balance, and faculty at UCSF department of Pediatrics working on burnout resilience.
Elissa Epel, PhD
Elissa Epel, Ph.D, is a best selling author and a Professor at UCSF in the Department of Psychiatry. She studies how chronic stress can impact biological aging (including the telomere/telomerase system), and how mindfulness interventions may buffer stress effects and promote psychological and physiological thriving. She also studies food addiction and obesity. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, co-chair of the steering council for the Mind and Life Institute, and President Elect of the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research. Epel co-wrote “The Telomere Effect: The new science of living younger longer” with Liz Blackburn, which is a New York Times best seller that integrates the science of cell aging with practical daily tips and is in 30 languages. She has won many awards for her research. Her work has been featured in venues such as TEDMED, NBC’s Today Show, CBS’s Morning Show, 60 minutes, National Public Radio, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Wisdom 2.0, Health 2.0, and in science documentaries. In addition to doing research, she enjoys leading meditation retreats with her colleagues.
Alejandro Chaoul, PhD
Alejandro Chaoul, PhD, is the founder and director of The Jung Center’s Mind Body Spirit Institute. He is a senior teacher at The 3 Doors and has been a student of Tibetan Buddhism since 1989, studying with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche, and Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche. He is an assistant professor and director of education at MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Integrative Medicine Program, where he teaches Tibetan meditation to cancer patients, their families, and caregivers, and researches the effects of Tibetan mind-body practices with cancer patients. Alejandro was recently named a Fellow of the Mind and Life Institute.
Ludmila Golovine
Ludmila Golovine is President and CEO of MasterWord Services, Inc., a global language solutions company. As a language professional, Golovine knows first-hand how interpreting, especially in the healthcare, social services, education, and legal arenas, may present challenges such as stress, anxiety, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma.
