Introduction to Interpreting in the Texas Courts

This workshop will provide participants with information about the basic role of the interpreter in legal proceedings, as well as the proper protocol that is to be used inside the courtroom. It reviews the three modes of interpretation used in the courtroom, as well as the proper protocol. Participants will have an opportunity to learn about the Judicial Branch Certification Commission Code of Ethics and to use critical thinking skills in applying the canons of the code of ethics in real-life situations.

1. Understand the extent and boundaries of the role of a court interpreter
2. Learn the proper protocol to be used during court proceedings
3. Review of the three modes of interpretation and their application
4. Introduce the Judicial Branch Certification Commission Code of Ethics and its applicability
